"INVISIBLE CITIES"

DATELINE: ZELENYY ZAKON
(May 3, 2021)

Fellow passengers, it’s another beautiful day in the Limoverse. Last week’s vote came down to a hair – and in the end we broke in favor of investigating the tokens. Democracy prevails!

In the distance we see a wisp of smoke rising. The home of a helpful local, perhaps? We set off down the mountain path, ushered by a sudden breeze though thickets of spruce. As the needles tickle our arms, the trees feel strangely…alive.

We push a creaky door open. The entire house coughs up a dust cloud, and when it settles we see a lone figure sitting behind a huge oak desk surrounded by books and charts. Don’t quote us on this, but it sure looks like internationally renowned swordfish boat captain Linda Greenlaw. Before her are dozens of the clay tokens we’re so curious about, which she’s sorting into piles.

She lifts an eyebrow over her reading glasses and looks us up and down, unimpressed. She knows exactly why we’re here.

“When the witches are out” – she offers us each a little clay cone – “be sure to count the sheep. But first, you must restore yourselves.”

She hands us steaming bowls of:

Sopa de lentejas con tocino

“And don’t forget to watch the tide,” she bellows as the house recedes and the front door slams shut before us.

What tide?
